1. Taking care of your gut microbiome for a happy body

2019 research around the world are all suggesting that a healthy gut can directly influence the chemistry of your mood, emotions, brain clarity, complexion, immune system, energy levels, and overall long term health & well-being. It’s been talked about so much this past year but, rest assured, this isn’t a simple fad. It’s been in the books for as long as we can remember, but simply put, more self-aware people are reaping the benefits from knowing how to best take care of their gut microbiome.

Aren’t we all seeking to feel better? Gain energy? Augment brain sharpness? Get that lustrous, brighter complexion?  Feel more rested in the morning? Improve digestion? Have a stronger immune system? Loose the belly bloat and ultimately shed the unwanted extra pounds?

Where to begin? Here are easy to apply appropriate lifestyle and dietary changes that can easily be incorporated in your daily life. By doing so, you can alter the diversity and number of microbes in your gut for the better. The 2 key words here are: REDUCE INFLAMMATION!

The alkaline diet: a way of life

1. Lymphatic System Health

The lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that help detox the body. Its primary function is to transport lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells, throughout the body. The lymphatic system is often overlooked, but people are slowly learning about how important it is to take care of it! It provides a variety of detoxification functions and plays a key role in the immune system.

When lymph isn’t flowing well, you might end up with an accumulation of waste and toxins. A few symptoms of this are fatigue, swollen glands, puffiness in the eyes or face, bloating or water retention, headaches, constipation, and weight gain.

Because people are becoming more aware of the benefits of taking care of this system, “lymphatic drainage” activities are set to become increasingly popular in 2020.

Here is our recommended list:

  • Movement: move your body as much as possible
  • Deep breathing
  • Rebounding (or bouncing on a trampoline)
  • Lymphatic drainage massage
  • Skin brushing (or dry brushing)
  • Eating a clean whole foods diet and drinking lots of water

2. Virtual Wellness

In 2020, “Virtual Wellness” seems set to become increasingly popular. Not having enough time for self-care is no longer an excuse – technology gives us access to wellness wherever we are! Virtual Wellness lets people practice at any time, whether it be in their homes, at the park, or on the commute back from the office. People want their workouts, or breathing exercises, or Health Coaches to be flexible with their everyday routines.

Virtual Wellness includes “at home” workouts, yoga, or guided meditations, breathing apps, and online health coaches. Here are a few of our favorite online teachers:,,,,, & For online health coaching, reach out to our own Global Glow Founder, Julie Katerine!

3. Spiritual Wellness & Meditation

More people are becoming aware of their spiritual and mental health, and meditation is set to become increasingly trendy. There are more yoga studios and apps that offer meditation sessions now. With today’s fast-pace living, people want to reduce anxiety, be better focused, improve their memory and heighten their awareness. It’s time to better connect with yourself and view health as more than just a good diet!

Here’s our go-to way to get into meditation:

  1. Find a comfortable spot and close your eyes
  2. Inhale through your nose for 8 counts, hold your breath for 4 counts and, breathe out through your mouth for 7 counts. Repeat this 5 times (or as many times as desired)
  3. Observe your breath and your thoughts and do your best not to judge – just remain and observe! This will train your mind to focus.

4. Plant-Based Products (Not made from Soy please!)

Plant-based diets are becoming steadily more popular. We’re not saying to switch to veganism (as we do not believe that there is such a thing as a “one diet fits all”. On the other hand, we certainly do recommend to incorporate more plant-based products into your everyday eating! Global Glow’s main belief is that it’s all about finding the right balance lifestyle for you. Be aware of plant-based products that contain refined soy, sugars, oils, and other artificial fillers. Good news is, more companies are keeping their ingredients to basic wholefoods and consuming more plants is not only good for you, it’s good for the planet!

In Montreal, we recently discovered PurePrep  – a meal-prep service that’s 100% plant-based, which uses amazing clean ingredients and that has sustainable packaging.

5. The Benefits of Being Present in Nature

As nature is becoming an increasingly valuable resource, its healing power cannot be overestimated. People have been seeking out immersion in nature that is far from industrial cities and from “screen-time”.  We are becoming more aware and attached to nature’s fragility and the changes humans are imposing on it.

Being present in nature is such an important basic human thing to do. It has the power to sooth your brain and your parasympathetic nervous system. Nature is amazing for your well-being!

A few of our favourite activities include walking, skiing, hiking, swimming, or simply hanging out with friends or family in nature. Whether it be in a park for a picnic, spending time by a bond fire in the woods, swimming in the ocean, or witnessing a sunset or a sunrise, spend time out there!
